ENOUGH EXCITEMENT IN YOUR LIFE? TRY EXTREME IRONING!!

At the top of the world...16000 feet carrying my ironing board and it's not an easy task. The wind is blowing hard with gusts up in the 40s and it brings me thoughts of actually attempting to glide off the side of this cliff perhaps like a paper airplane. OH YEAAAAH!

RADIOHEAD ~ A GENRE OF ITS OWN????

Just read an article on NPR about Radiohead being it's own genre. In so many ways it's not that far fetched to believe that. In a matter of idle respects I would promote that Radiohead has taken substantial risks with some of their material in the past and yet it's only engaged in expanding their fan base. Genius marketeers perhaps, or just a motley crew of hooligans at best? Nonetheless I adore what they have accomplished and look forward to more music in the future. When does that tour start?

CANNED LUXURY? ~ TRY Ca l'Espinaler in Vilassar de Mar

I was watching No Reservations on my DIVO yesterday and watched the Barcelona episode. Wow how I was blown away, and how at that exact moment I felt like I wanted to sell every single thing I own just to go on an extensive trip to Spain. There's a place they featured that especially caught my eye called Taverna Ca l'Espinaler. Canned seafood and other luxury foods that you wouldn't believe! They opened a can of 2 year old tuna and showed how the juices come to life upon opening the can. The juices were simmering and bubbling up like as if they were on a stove, but it was actually just a process of the juices blending together. Tony made it seem as if it was the best thing since sliced bread. So, maybe one day I will try to order a couple cans of seafood from Ca l'Espinaler. I think Ima open that 2 year old pickled herring can I have in the pantry this afternoon. Goes well with a saltine. Mmmm, yum. Click the pic for more info.

RADIOHEAD ~ THE KING OF LIMBS 20 HOURS LATER>>>

I've been listening to the new Radiohead album almost non stop since it came out, and since I refuse to believe that this new release was a travesty. All set aside and especially my first review of this album, I just want to say that when one sits down and really listens to the album in it's entirety for 20 hours straight, it grows on you a bit. Not really 20 hours straight but nearly just as well. I started to slowly take apart each song and verse and beat and note for gods sake. I am an analyst. Now I know where the word anal comes from and it's not the one you're thinking. This album has been transcendental for me and I've been places and feel like I've gotten so deep into the psyche of  Thom Yorke. I  wish they made a movie called "Being Thom Yorke" because I want to be what I feel right now. I want to reverse things I've said and people I've hurt. I want to make people understand how absolutely deep this album actually is and now I understand why people won't get it. The ones that say they do, say so because they are just following the hype, they really don't unless they really dig into the album and disassemble it like taking apart your grandpas typewriter. The textures and repetitive mantras are so indicative of simmering within your mind without you really knowing it until that one key hits. It's like a hypnotist snapping his finger and waking you up and the world around you has changed like a trip or shamanic dream. It's like looking at a holographic poster for the first time and NOT seeing that sail boat in the picture...then you finally start to see it popping out right in front of you and it's the greatest thing you've ever seen. Then after the sail boat, the birds flying around start popping out from the background, then the trees...The King of Limbs is genius.

Guitarist Ronnie Geirhart officially leaves Neon Indian

Guitarist Ronnie Geirhart announced that he is officially parting ways with Neon Indian and planning to go a different path with his own sound according to an interview earlier this week with the Dallas Observer's Pete Freedman. He has moved back to the DFW area to concentrate on finishing school and also has been collaborating with "This Will Destroy You" drummer Alex Bhore and I really hope and pray that these two get something going. I went to see Neon Indian at the Granada last year and I will say right now and right here that Ronnie was the show. HE was the center point of attention for me as far as energy and passion goes. I have always been amazed at his musicianship and his radical guitar work. So whatever it is that Ronnie does you BETTER Believe that I will be one of the first in line to get into the show. There is a poise and attribute about Ronnie that I haven't seen in a guitarist in a long time. This guy is a straight up showman and he can play the fuck out of that guitar. SO what is it that he will be working on? He got together with Alex Bhore down at his studio in Waxahachie earlier this month to start working on an experimental sound. Here is a track they worked on called "Sultan Flower".

RokkaMan - A Million Ears [Official Music Video 1080p HD]

Those who know me...know I like me some good raw Hip Hop.
This is RokkaMan from Houston Texas.

And the winner for Best Metal Performance is....{{{{CRICKETS}}}}...circa 1988

Lest we forget that Metallica was totally blindsided by Jethro Tull for Best Metal Performance at the 1988 Grammys and this my friends was a total shocker for everyone. Especially me. I can tell you that back in those days we didn't have blogs or email or even cell phones. I remember my phone was ringing off the hook with my metal head friends calling me about the shocker. It was like "Hey man, did you see that fucking shit?" I can still hear that phone bell ring in my ears. We were mocking Jethro Tull all week at school...one of my friends even stole his sisters flute and carried it around the campus, playing it air guitar style. People were pissed at school. This was cigarette curb chatter for 2 solid weeks! kids throwing cigarettes at passing cars and stealing Jethro Tull cassette tapes at the Sam Goody music place...It was a crazy time.

I decided to post the following as an excerpt from www.cracked.com's view on this Grammy debacle, since it's almost exactly what I would have written...and it's also a good chuckle.

It could be argued that without Metallica, there would never even have been a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. It had been nearly 20 years since Black Sabbath pretty much invented heavy metal, but most agree that Metallica perfected it, and spawned a whole genre of imitators. This was the award that Metallica built, giving it to anyone else would be unthinkable. Plus, their bass player had just died, and the Grammys rarely fail to jump at a sentimental opportunity like that. They should've just mailed the damn awards to Metallica and called it a year. Right?

And the Winner is ...Jethro Tull.

What the fuck?!?! That was pretty much the universal response when Tull's name came out as the winner of the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Seriously, Jethro Tull? Like, "Aqualung" Jethro Tull? There is an old saying that goes "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you'll never fool anybody into believing that a band that has a motherfucking lead flautist is even kind of metal." Or something like that.
Sure, Jethro Tull could crank out tunes about dragons and ancient beasts with the best of them, but that doesn't make them Dio for fuck's sake! Did we mention the lead singer played the flute? THE FLUTE! Granted, these days every metal band on earth has an album floating around on which they are backed by a symphony orchestra of some sort, but that shit wasn't going down in 1988. Metal at that time meant you stood on stage, played as loud and fast as humanly possible in between shots of Jack Daniels, swung your shoulder-length mullets in unison when appropriate and just rocked the fuck out. That's what Metallica was all about at the time. If they had dared to take the stage wearing fancy ruffled shirts and vests and started monkeying around with flutes, there would've been a riot. Speaking of riots, the fact that one didn't break out when Jethro Tull was announced as the winner of the Grammy for Best Metal Performance is a minor miracle. Like no other band before or after, Metallica was robbed at the 1988 Grammy Awards, marking the first and last time anybody would ever feel sympathetic to the plight of Lars Ulrich.

SXSW ~ And why I despise it so much

I don't want to sound like I am on my soap box, but if I may step up for a bit here. South By South West, Austin's Devil Child of an international annual music conference held every middle of March has become so mainstream. The city of Austin Texas comes to a standstill and people from ALL OVER THE WORLD flood into the city by plane, train, or automobile. I have attended every year since 2001 and I can tell you that it's definitely NOT worth getting a wristband. If you must see all bands performing then you must get a badge which is like an ass magnet. I mean, men and women will be throw their actual asses at you and beg you to hang with them. SO for the best bang for your buck, GET A BADGE! It's like 800 bucks or something. I can remember the time when anyone could go and check out a show without a wristband. Now it's like even if you HAVE a wristband to get into a show, you are not guaranteed entrance. So it has become a waste of money. To make things even more complicated they have raised the cost on these wristbands and to be honest I rather save that money for other things like cool t-shirts and music demos. There has been quite a change in my itinerary. I choose to attend non-SXSW events throughout my venture in Austin during this conference. Now that Arcade Fire won album of the year at the Grammy's, the popularity of indie will increase TEN Fold and it will be even that much more difficult to get into anything. You may ask, why are you going if you hate it so much? Well, It's the best time to catch the most music you will ever endure within the span of 5 days and I absolutely LOVE NEW and fresh music. Unseen and Unfounded is my bag. I will be in Austin this year promoting my blog and passing out keepsakes as well as taking in TONS of media input (Video, Pics, Audio, Etc). The best shows are at the Moose Lodge in East Austin. You can't beat 5 stages, hundreds of bands and free food + cheap beer and coffee.
